Google Squared

Do you remember Google Squared?

I mistakenly came across Google squared last year, and used that for a couple of months before the service was actually stopped by Google. As mentioned in Wikipedia, The service was available from June 2009 to Sep 2011, and later on it was shut down, like many other google services like google health and google O_o, I dont remember the name, it was more like creating with a bunch of gtalk users on the go, also had an option to post to blogger direclty from there. I was one of the initial users of that service. Anyways, before google squared was shit-down. I really made some shitty use of that service.

So for those who dont know, What is Google Squared?

Again you put bunch of keywords, that are processed by distributed dynamic system of the google search engine! But think of this as a spread-sheet where you select the column names that you feel are most relevant information that you require. So now you enter the query and select the bunch of coulmn names that you ask google to extract information for! search results are provided in rows that may have multiple options (values) that can be selected from the cluster of information gathered from the webpages. So, I hope you got the basic idea here. As quoted by wikipedia, "Google Squared was information extration and relationship extraction tool from Google".

I know you are sill wondering how does it looks like. I don't know if the image of this webpage is available in time machine. Try out your luck, so the url was some thing like google.com/squared.

Ohk! I also have an example to make here, I used Google square service to find meanings for GRE wordlist. After a lot of editing, I published on the my other blog. Here: http://greverbal.blogspot.ca/.

So as you can see on the blogspot, my idea was to create a wordlist from google squerd service from different websites and publish it for my usage. So the problem that I got stuck with was, I had the url for images there in the image column rather than the actual image. There were bunch of methods avialbale for fetching the url object into the column. But after I export it to google spreadsheet, it didnt worked perfectly for me. So ya, I exported the search resut to google spreadsheet to save it for future use.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and I suggest you to  share your expeirinces as comments below.
